Jessabelle (2014)

Jessabelle (2014) is a spine-chilling supernatural horror film steeped in Southern gothic mystery. After a horrific car accident leaves her paralyzed and widowed, Jessie (Sarah Snook) returns to her childhood home deep in the Louisiana bayou to heal under the care of her distant and stern father. But her return awakens something long buried—both emotionally and spiritually.

While confined to a wheelchair, Jessie discovers a series of old VHS tapes recorded by her late mother before her death. Initially comforting, the tapes soon take a disturbing turn as her mother begins predicting terrifying events that mirror Jessie’s current reality.

As Jessie investigates her family’s history, she becomes haunted by a vengeful female spirit. Whispers of voodoo, betrayal, and a hidden identity rise to the surface. The spirit’s grip tightens, and Jessie realizes that the entity is connected to her in ways she never imagined.

With creepy settings, eerie sound design, and a steadily building sense of dread, Jessabelle explores grief, generational trauma, and the secrets that fester in the dark. As Jessie gets closer to the horrifying truth, she must decide whether to run—or face the ghost of a past she never knew was hers.
