Along the way, the characters form an unlikely but heartwarming friendship, and each one grows emotionally. The dragon, later named Toothless, is unlike the fearsome creatures the villagers have grown up fearing. As Hiccup secretly bonds with Toothless, he begins to discover that dragons are not the violent, destructive creatures the villagers believe them to be. Through his friendship with Toothless, Hiccup learns about the true nature of dragons and becomes determined to change the village’s perspective on them.
However, Hiccup faces opposition from his father, who is determined to rid Berk of the dragons.
