Set in a futuristic prison facility where inmates can reduce their sentences by participating in drug experiments, the story follows Jeff (Miles Teller), a prisoner haunted by his past, who becomes suspicious of the mind-altering drugs administered by the facility’s charismatic yet unsettling overseer, Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth). As the experiments grow more disturbing, Jeff begins to question the true purpose of Spiderhead and the ethical implications of its research.

Chris Hemsworth delivers a standout performance, playing against type as a charming yet manipulative scientist. Miles Teller brings emotional depth to his role, making Jeff a sympathetic and complex protagonist. The film’s sterile, minimalist aesthetic and eerie soundtrack add to the unsettling atmosphere, keeping the tension high.

However, while Spiderhead presents an intriguing premise, its execution falls short of its potential. The story lacks the depth and psychological complexity of its source material, and the thriller elements never fully escalate to a gripping climax. Despite strong performances and stylish direction, the film feels underwhelming compared to its thought-provoking premise.
