The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard (2021)
The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard (2021), directed by Patrick Hughes, is the action-comedy sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017). The film brings back the chaotic trio: Ryan Reynolds as Michael Bryce (the bodyguard), Samuel L. Jackson as Darius Kincaid (the hitman), and Salma Hayek as Sonia Kincaid (Darius’s fiery wife). This time, Bryce is pulled out of a much-needed break when Sonia drags him into another high-stakes mission involving a terrorist plot led by Antonio Banderas’s character, Aristotle Papadopoulos.
The movie maintains the over-the-top action, crude humor, and high-energy banter that made the first film popular. Ryan Reynolds delivers his signature sarcastic wit, while Samuel L. Jackson remains as foul-mouthed and badass as ever. However, the real scene-stealer is Salma Hayek, whose character gets significantly more screen time, bringing a wild and unpredictable energy to the film.
While the film provides non-stop action and laughs, it lacks the freshness of the first installment, with a somewhat messy plot and excessive reliance on chaotic humor. Nonetheless, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard remains an entertaining, explosive ride for fans of buddy-action comedies.
