MOSI

Mosi, the first Black Panther, is a groundbreaking figure in Marvel Comics, redefining the origins of Wakanda’s legendary protector. Introduced in Marvel Legacy #1 by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribić, Mosi predates even Bashenga, making him the earliest known warrior to wield the power of the Black Panther. His story takes place in 1,000,000 B.C., at a time when early civilizations were just beginning to take shape, and Earth was still vulnerable to primal threats.

Mosi became the first Wakandan to ingest the heart-shaped herb, a sacred plant blessed by the Panther Goddess, Bast, which granted him superhuman abilities, enhanced senses, and peak agility. With these newfound powers, Mosi took on the mantle of Wakanda’s first great defender, setting the foundation for the Black Panther legacy that would continue for generations. His courage, leadership, and wisdom were instrumental in shaping the early Panther Tribe, securing Wakanda’s strength and independence.

In addition to his role as the first Black Panther, Mosi was also a member of the Avengers of 1,000,000 B.C., a prehistoric team of powerful warriors, including Odin, Agamotto (the first Sorcerer Supreme), the first Ghost Rider, and the first Iron Fist. Together, they fought against godlike cosmic threats, making Mosi one of the earliest champions of Earth.

However, his story is not without tragedy. Mosi’s heroic sacrifice in battle deeply impacted Wakanda, leading the Panther Tribe to become increasingly isolated from the world—a decision that would shape Wakanda’s future for millennia. While Bashenga is often credited with formally establishing the Black Panther mantle and uniting the Wakandan tribes, Mosi’s bravery and sacrifice laid the groundwork for what would become one of Marvel’s most enduring legacies.

With Mosi: The First Black Panther, Marvel has expanded the mythology of Wakanda, proving that the Black Panther’s legacy goes beyond just one man—it’s a timeless symbol of strength, leadership, and honor.
