DEATH RACE (2008)

Starring Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Ian McShane, Joan Allen
In a grim, near-future America ravaged by economic collapse and rising crime, prisons have become a brutal form of entertainment. The most popular: Death Race, a deadly televised competition where inmates drive armored, weaponized cars in a savage contest for freedom — or death.

Jensen Ames (Jason Statham), a former racing legend, is wrongfully imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. Inside Terminal Island Penitentiary, the cold and calculating warden Hennessey (Joan Allen) offers him a deal: take on the role of Frankenstein, a legendary masked racer presumed dead, and compete in the next Death Race. If he wins, he earns his freedom.

Teamed with veteran pit boss Coach (Ian McShane) and fierce navigator Case (Natalie Martinez), Ames is thrust into a vicious arena where betrayal is constant and survival means killing or being killed. Among the competitors is Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson), a deadly rival with his own agenda — and no mercy.

As engines roar and bullets fly, Ames must navigate both the track and the conspiracies behind the scenes, uncovering the truth about his setup and deciding how far he’s willing to go to reclaim his life.
