Kuntilanak 3 (2022)

Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller, Supernatural

Plot:

Kuntilanak 3 (2022) is the chilling continuation of the popular Indonesian horror franchise, delving deeper into the lore and terrifying presence of the Kuntilanak, a vengeful spirit known for haunting and tormenting those who cross her path. This latest installment picks up after the events of the previous films, where the curse of the Kuntilanak continues to spread, claiming more innocent lives in its wake.

The film follows Alika (played by a rising star like Raline Shah), a young woman who has recently moved to a small town with her family, hoping to escape from the trauma and fear of her past. She and her parents are looking for a fresh start, but they quickly discover that the town they’ve moved to has its own dark history. Alika begins to experience strange and terrifying events, including hearing unsettling noises at night, witnessing strange shadows, and seeing a figure with long, disheveled hair that she cannot escape.

Alika becomes increasingly paranoid as her family begins to show signs of being cursed. Her mother, Cynthia (played by Luna Maya), starts behaving erratically, as if possessed, and her father, Rudi (played by Reza Rahadian), becomes obsessed with uncovering the history of the Kuntilanak in the town. Alika starts to suspect that her family’s arrival in the town was not as coincidental as she initially thought, and she begins to dig into the dark past of the Kuntilanak and its connection to her family.

As Alika investigates, she learns that the spirit of the Kuntilanak has a deeply personal connection to her bloodline, stemming from a past tragedy that occurred decades ago in the very same town. The Kuntilanak, it seems, was not just a random spirit but one with a mission to seek revenge on those who wronged her in life. Alika realizes that she is not merely a victim but is somehow linked to the spirit’s curse. In order to save her family, Alika must confront the horrifying truth about her ancestors and the dark secrets that have been hidden for generations.

With the Kuntilanak growing stronger and her family falling deeper into its grasp, Alika seeks help from a local priest, Father Tomas (played by Oka Antara), who has knowledge of the ancient rituals that can banish the Kuntilanak. Together with her childhood friend Satria (played by Naufal Faza), Alika sets out to find a way to break the curse and stop the spirit from claiming more lives, culminating in a terrifying battle against the forces of darkness.

The film builds to a heart-stopping finale, where Alika faces the Kuntilanak in a battle of wills, using both ancient rituals and her newfound understanding of the supernatural to put an end to the spirit’s reign of terror once and for all. But as the truth about the Kuntilanak’s origins is revealed, Alika learns that the spirit is not easily defeated—and the cost of defeating her may come at a terrifying price.
