After six years, they’re no longer aliens. They’re residents.
Monsters is an indie sci-fi drama that redefines the alien invasion genre with haunting realism and emotional depth. Directed by Gareth Edwards in his stunning feature debut, the film unfolds in a world where extraterrestrial creatures have occupied a large swath of Mexico following a NASA probe crash. The “Infected Zone” is now heavily quarantined, and both governments and civilians struggle with its presence.

The story follows cynical photojournalist Andrew Kaulder (Scoot McNairy) who is tasked with escorting his employer’s daughter, Samantha Wynden (Whitney Able), back to the United States through the dangerous, creature-infested area. What begins as a reluctant mission turns into a harrowing and intimate journey as the two navigate through war-torn landscapes and come face-to-face with the consequences of human and alien coexistence.

Blending naturalistic dialogue, improvised performances, and immersive visuals, Monsters explores love, survival, and the blurred lines between threat and misunderstanding. It’s a quiet, contemplative take on science fiction — where the monsters aren’t always the aliens.
