Force of Nature (2020)

Directed by Michael Polish, Force of Nature (2020) is an action thriller that attempts to mix a heist, a hurricane, and Mel Gibson into one high-stakes survival story. Starring Emile Hirsch, Kate Bosworth, and Gibson, the film follows a group of people trapped in a Puerto Rican apartment complex during a Category 5 hurricane while a gang of criminals attempts to pull off a daring robbery.
The setup is promising—a storm raging outside while chaos erupts inside—but the execution falls flat. The film struggles with clunky dialogue, underdeveloped characters, and an overreliance on action clichés. Gibson plays a gruff retired cop, a role he can handle effortlessly, but his screen time is limited. Emile Hirsch does his best as the reluctant hero, but the script doesn’t give him much depth.
The action sequences are decent but nothing groundbreaking, and the hurricane backdrop, which should add tension, feels more like an afterthought. Instead of enhancing the suspense, the storm is merely a gimmick, failing to create the sense of urgency that a disaster film should deliver.

Overall, Force of Nature is a forgettable action film that squanders its potential. While it may provide some mild entertainment for fans of low-budget action flicks, it lacks the intensity, creativity, and strong storytelling needed to make it stand out.
