Passengers (2016) ๐Ÿš€โค๏ธ

Directed by Morten Tyldum, Passengers (2016) is a visually stunning sci-fi romance starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. The film takes place aboard the Avalon, a spaceship carrying thousands of people in cryosleep on a 120-year journey to a new colony. When mechanical failure causes Jim (Pratt) to wake up 90 years too early, he faces a lonely existenceโ€”until he makes a morally complex decision that changes everything.

The filmโ€™s biggest strength lies in its breathtaking visuals and immersive space setting. The spaceshipโ€™s sleek design, zero-gravity sequences, and futuristic technology create a captivating backdrop. Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt deliver solid performances, with great chemistry driving their evolving relationship. Michael Sheen also adds charm as an android bartender.
However, the film’s central conflictโ€”Jim waking Aurora (Lawrence) from cryosleep without her consentโ€”raises ethical concerns that are not deeply explored. While the movie attempts to shift the focus to survival and redemption, many viewers found this aspect unsettling. Additionally, the third act takes a more action-oriented approach, moving away from the psychological depth that could have made the story more compelling.
Despite its flaws, Passengers is an entertaining mix of romance, drama, and sci-fi spectacle. While it doesnโ€™t fully capitalize on its thought-provoking premise, it offers a visually mesmerizing and emotional journey for fans of space-set storytelling.
