The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) is the final chapter in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, bringing Bilbo Baggins’ journey to an epic conclusion. Picking up immediately after The Desolation of Smaug, the film focuses on the devastating battle for Erebor, as Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) succumbs to greed while various armies clash for control of the Lonely Mountain.
Visually, the film is stunning, with breathtaking CGI battles and incredible set designs. The massive war sequences, particularly the confrontation between Thorin and Azog, deliver thrilling action. However, some fans feel the movie is stretched out, given that it’s based on just a few pages of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel. Bilbo (Martin Freeman) remains a heartwarming presence, but his role feels diminished compared to previous films.
While it lacks the emotional depth of The Lord of the Rings, the film delivers spectacle and a bittersweet farewell to Middle-earth. Despite some pacing issues, it’s a solid, action-packed conclusion to The Hobbit trilogy.
