Redbad (2018)

Redbad (2018) brings history to life in an epic medieval battle for survival, faith, and independence. Directed by Roel Reiné, this Dutch historical drama plunges audiences into the brutal 8th-century power struggle between the Frisians and the rising Christian Frankish Empire.

The Story: A Leader Forged in Exile
When Redbad (Gijs Naber), heir to the Frisian throne, is betrayed and cast adrift, he is presumed dead. Surviving against all odds, he finds refuge among Viking warriors, where he learns new ways of war and leadership. Meanwhile, his homeland falls under the iron grip of the Franks, led by Charles Martel (Jonathan Banks) and the expansion of Christianity.
Redbad must return to rally his people, reclaim his birthright, and wage a war for Frisian freedom. As faith and politics collide, can he unite the divided tribes against an unstoppable empire, or will his land be lost forever?
