I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) is a slasher horror film directed by Jim Gillespie, based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan. The film follows a group of four teenagers—Julie James (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Ray Bronson (Ryan Phillippe), Helen Shivers (Jennifer Love Hewitt), and Barry Cox (Freddie Prinze Jr.)—who, after a night of celebration, accidentally run over a man on a rural road. In an attempt to cover up the incident, they dispose of the body, only to find themselves stalked by a mysterious killer a year later, who knows their secret and begins picking them off one by one.

The film blends elements of teen drama with classic horror tropes, creating a suspenseful atmosphere filled with twists and scares. As the group members are hunted, they must confront the consequences of their past actions and their fear of being caught.

With its iconic tagline, “I know what you did last summer,” the film became a defining part of the late 90s teen horror craze, alongside other films like Scream. It capitalized on the popularity of horror-thriller films at the time and helped cement Jennifer Love Hewitt and the rest of the cast as prominent stars of the genre.
